With an abundance of pine trees, crabgrass, and clover, North Carolina lawns can be a challenge. Add to this a mowing season that can run for 9 months, and suddenly your busy, active lifestyle becomes overwhelming. At Wake Landscapes, we know that lawn care is about so much more than mowing your grass. We bring art and science together in our mission to give homeowners in Cary, Apex, Morrisville, and surrounding areas an attractive lawn year-round. Our services include lawn mowing and complete maintenance services, such as mulching and trimming of your plants.

Mowing, edging and blowing starts at just $40.00/week, or $60.00/bi-weekly for small yards larger lawns are slightly more. Additional factors we consider include gated back yards, additional edging, difficult terrain, etc.

Our professional lawn maintenance services are scheduled weekly or bi-weekly, and can be adjusted at any time based on the growth rate of the lawn. Each visit includes mowing all turf, edging beds and hardscapes, and blowing all turf and hardscapes free of leaves and debris.  Leaf and debris removal can be provided at a separate cost.

You may think mowing is as simple as firing up the mower and going over the grass. In reality, to maintain a thriving yard, it is much more. Here are some of the items we consider:

How often your lawn needs mowed.

Every yard is different. We customize our approach to meet the unique needs of your lawn. Generally, mowing is done every other week at the end of the mowing season, and once per week during the growth months (April to September). This can vary depending on your grass type. In our area, we have both cool season and warm season grasses.

  • Cool season grasses include Fescue, Rye, and Kentucky Bluegrass
  • Warm season grasses include Bermuda, Zoysia, Centipede and St. Augustine

We mow using the 1/3rd rule.

This rule protects the health of your lawn by never removing more than one-third of the height of each blade of grass in the mowing process. Grasses, like any green plant, use photosynthesis to produce food. The leaves absorb sunlight and carbon dioxide and convert them into sugars. When more than one-third of the blade is removed, the grass is unable to adequately perform this process.

A common misconception is that a short-trimmed lawn is preferable, but we know that cutting your lawn too short weakens the root system, which can result in a dry, patchy lawn. Our goal, instead, is to give you a slightly higher cut that is neat and even in appearance.

Proper equipment. Sharp Blades.

We make sure to use the proper size mower for your type of lawn.  A mower which is too heavy can damage a lawn.  We also use chute blockers on our mowers to eliminate any side discharge to keep our surroundings free from flying debris.  We routinely sharpen our lawn mower blades to ensure a healthy cut.  Dull lawn mower blades actually tear the grass, which stresses the lawn.

Rotating the mowing pattern.

Rotating mowing directions allows grass shoots to grow upright, rather than leaning in a specific direction. This improves the overall appearance of your lawn.

Another important task to keep your yard and landscape in great shape is trimming and pruning. We offer trimming and pruning services for all of your shrubs, hedges, and small trees (sorry, no big tree work). These services help to ensure that your plants don’t become overgrown, retain their shape and fullness, and also stops the spread of disease from infected branches.
